This month players from Leominster Chess Club (joined by players from Hereford, Malvern, Kidderminster, Worcester and Abergavenny) got the opportunity to play Grandmaster Keith Arkell in a simul match organized by Hereford Chess Club.
The event saw 37 boards of simultaneous play against Arkell whose peak rating is 2545. Keith’s youngest opponent was 8 and his oldest 86 years old. There were a small number of wins by players from Hereford and Worcester chess clubs (Paul Barker, Oliver Layton, Dillan Duke from Hereford and Scott Oxtoby from Worcester.), one game in particular worth calling out is Paul Barker’s dramatic 26 move victory which can be seen on the “Games” pages of the Hereford Chess Club website.
Thanks to Lee Davis of Hereford Chess Club for organizing the event.
