DESCRIPTION:Simul v Grand Master Keith Arkell at Hereford Chess Club. \nWhen: Wednesday 13 March 7pm (arrive from 6.30pm). \nWhere: The Herdsman\, Widemarsh Street\, Hereford. \nInformation: Please contact the organiser below if interested. \nGrand Master Keith Arkell currently has an ECF rating of 2424 and a FIDE (International Chess Federation) rating of 2380. \n\nHe has many tournament victories at home and around the world including victories at the famous Marshall Chess Club in Manhattan\, at Saratoga Springs\, and at the Blackstone Open\, near Boston.  In Barbados\, he finished runner-up in the strongest tournament ever held in the English-speaking nations of the Caribbean.\nHe tied for second at the strong (and internationally famous) Hastings Premier of 2002/3\, took first place at the Wroxham Masters (2002)[2] and tied for second at Montpellier (2002).\nAt Gausdal (2002)\, he beat  Magnus Carlsen.\nHe was the 1998 British Rapidplay Chess Champion\, having recorded his peak Elo rating of 2545 just two years earlier.\nIn 2008\, he tied for first place at the British Championship and won the English Chess Championship.\nHe tied for second place at the 2001 British Chess Championship\nIn 2014 he was European Senior (50+) Champion\, and\, later in the year\, tied for first in the World Senior (50+) Championship\, but received the silver medal on tie-break.\nHe won the 2021 British Online Championship.\nIn 2022 he was part of the England team that won the World Senior (50+) Team Championship\, and he won the gold medal for the best performance his boards. Later that year the team won the European title\, where he again collecting the gold medal for his performance on board 2 for the team.\nHe is the author of two books: Arkell’s Odyssey\, an autobiography\, published in 2012 and Arkell’s Endings; published in 2020.
