As Leominster chess club enters Summer recess for July and August now seems like a good time to look back on some recent activity at the club. In early June current club champion Stephen Priestley took on five chess club juniors in a blindfold simul! Stephen faced the wall, calling out his moves on each board – a fantastic display of skill and visual memory.

Leominster vs. Warndon club match

At the end of June Leominster played a first rated friendly match against Warndon chess club, a new local club based outside of Worcester. We were delighted to walk away with the win (3.5 – 1.5) and look forward to welcoming the Warndon players to Leominster for our second leg in the Autumn. Herefordshire County Champion 🏆

We are delighted that our current club Champion, Stephen Priestley, also captured the title of Herefordshire County Champion – the first time a Leominster player has ever held this title! Steve recently brought the trophy into the club, it’s a fantastic award with lots of history and many great previous winners!

Summer recess

Leominster chess club will be in recess for the months of July and August, we’ll be back on Tuesday 1st September! Keep an eye on our Facebook page or WhatsApp group for reminders. Coming up this Autumn we’ll have the 2026 Leominster Chess Club Championship and news on a new Spring tournament…lot’s of exciting things coming up!
